About Us 

Established in July 2014, the Jersey Pensions Association (JPA) promotes, develops and provides stewardship to the Island’s pensions industry.   Its membership is diverse – encouraging engagement, discussion and debate between a wide range of interested stakeholders.

Fundamentally, the JPA believes in safeguarding Jersey pensions.  It aims to achieve this through the expression of industry opinion, on-going dialogue with public authorities and the provision of best practice guidance.

Chairman

Nancy Chien

Nancy is a Partner in the International Private Client group of Bedell. She has extensive experience in a wide range of trust-related structures, ranging from discretionary settlements to pensions and employee benefit trusts.

Prior to joining Bedell, Nancy was a senior associate at Ashurst in London, specialising in pensions and employee benefit trusts. Her private client experience was obtained at leading Channel Islands and New Zealand firms. She has been described as a "proactive advisor who impresses with appropriate advice that comes with high service levels" - Legal 500.

Secretary

Peter Culnane

Peter is a director of Fairway Pension Trustees Limited, with over 17 years accumulated experience within the UK, Jersey and international pension arenas. His background in investment management, international financial planning and as a pension trustee being an ideal foundation to his leading role.

Peter’s expertise spans the personal and corporate pensions markets in Jersey and includes the structuring of multi-jurisdictional pension schemes and international pension transfers. Peter has also represented both the domestic and international pensions industry in Jersey, as a member of numerous Working Groups responsible for advising the States of Jersey in relation to legislative change.

Peter is a Member of the Securities & Investments Institute, an Associate of the Institute of Financial Planning, a Member of the Institute of Directors and is a Certified Financial Planner.

Steve Warner

Steve has 25 years experience working in both the UK and Channel Islands financial services industries.

Having completed his initial training working with a number of independent financial services organisations in the UK he joined a firm of accountants where he helped develop their investment and tax planning services before moving to National Westminster Bank Financial Planning Services.

He is a qualified Member of the Personal Financial Planning Society and The Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate including the specialist G60 Pensions qualification.

He is a founder member of the Jersey Association of Pension Fund Trustees and was also a member of the working party set up to review and advise the States of Jersey on changes to Jersey's pensions legislation and regulations.

Mike Freer

Mike is Business Development Manager for BWCI Group where he has responsibility for new business acquisition, marketing strategy and client relationship management.  

Mike has more than thirty years' experience in the financial services industry both locally, in the UK and internationally. He has extensive experience in all aspects of business development, especially in relation to financial planning and wealth creation products and services.
